How often should succulents be watered in the northern winter (how often should succulents be watered indoors)

Succulent plants are native to relatively dry deserts, semi-deserts and other areas. Over a long period of time, they have developed physiological characteristics of drought resistance and are very sensitive to excessively wet soil and waterlogging.

In addition, due to its growth habits of liking warmth and fearing cold, watering in winter is more particular, especially in the cold north.

If the watering method suitable for plant growth is not adopted in the northern winter, the root rot of the plant will easily occur. So how often should the succulents be watered in the northern winter?

How often do you water?

There is no specific answer to this question. Because different plants, climates, soils, pots, etc. will affect water consumption, so watering needs to be done according to actual conditions.

Flower pot becomes lighter:

Moist soil is heavier than dry soil. We can weigh the flowerpot after watering to know the weight of the moist soil.

When the weight of the flowerpot becomes lighter, it proves that the plant is in a state of water shortage, and it should be watered thoroughly for maintenance.

Since everyone's ability to sense weight is different, some errors can easily occur. It is recommended that new students use the following two methods to identify soil dryness and wetness.

Bamboo sticks dry:

Friends who have raised Clivia should know that they will insert a bamboo stick into the flowerpot to determine whether the plant is lacking water or needs watering. In fact, succulent plants can also use this method to determine whether the soil is dry or wet.

If the bamboo sticks are dry when pulled out, you need to water them thoroughly. But remember to insert the bamboo sticks every time you water them, and make sure the depth is about 3 cm from the soil surface.

Leaves become soft:

Succulents are plants whose stems, leaves and roots are rich in juice. If the soil has been dry for a long time, the leaves of the plant will become soft and yellow. At this time, if you weigh the flowerpot and it feels lighter, it can basically be judged that it is lacking water.

In addition, the roots of succulents are very sensitive, and rot can also cause the leaves to become soft and yellow. It is recommended to combine the above two methods to determine whether the succulents are lacking water.
