How to care for wintersweet after it fades

Water in time after the wintersweet flowers fade

Most potted wintersweets at home are placed indoors for viewing. In the later stage of flowering, the plants should be moved outdoors and placed in a warm sunny place. After the soil in the pot is dry, water it as usual. Do not water it unless it is dry, and make sure to water it thoroughly when you do. Remove withered flowers promptly to prevent them from scattering on the ground and breeding bacteria.

Repotting after the wintersweet flowers fade

For wintersweets grown in pots at home, there is less soil in the pots and the nutrients are easily depleted. They need to be repotted and the soil changed regularly, usually once every 1 to 2 years. The best time is when the branches and leaves sprout in March or April, which is 2 months after the flowers fall.

After taking the wintersweet out of the original pot, peel off 30% to 50% of the old soil on the mud ball, then shorten the roots that are too long, and cut off the weak, overlapping, overgrown, and crossed branches, move it into a new pot, and add new soil ( garden soil or artificial culture soil ) and base fertilizer ( organic compound fertilizer is preferred ) . After repotting, water thoroughly and place in a cool place.

Wintersweet can be propagated by grafting after the flowers fade

When the wintersweet is not in bloom, you can use the grafting method to plant more trees. After the flowers fade, choose branches with better growth, strengthen maintenance, cut off the top of the branch, and concentrate the nutrients in the middle part of the branch. After a month, cut the branches and cut them into sections, leaving the wood slightly exposed. Insert them on the rootstock, tie them with plastic tape, and then seal the cut with soil. After about a month, loosen the soil and check whether it has survived.
