How to cultivate Michelia

How to cultivate Michelia

1. Semi-shady environment

Its native habitat is in the woods, so it is a semi-shade plant and cannot withstand strong light stimulation. This condition must be paid attention to. It should not be placed under the scorching sun, especially in the summer. Pay attention to the intensity and duration of the sunlight, and use something to block the sunlight. When growing it at home, you can place it in a diffuse light environment, and an east-facing windowsill is a good choice.

2. Proper moisture

Because the roots are fleshy and can store water, watering does not need to be too frequent, especially during rainy seasons, when the frequency and amount of water application need special attention. There is an interval of 2-3 days between spring and autumn. The evaporation is faster in summer, taking 1-2 days. The growth is very slow in winter, and the demand for water becomes less, so once a week can be met. It is best to keep the soil in the pot slightly dry.

3. Apply nutrients

It likes fertilizer very much and needs sufficient nutrient supply during the growing period and before flowering. It can be applied once every 15 days. Pay attention to the concentration. If it is too high, it will burn the root system. But note that fertilization should be stopped during the flowering period and after October. Fertilization during these two time periods is not conducive to growth.

4. Temperature range

It is very sensitive to temperature changes and cannot tolerate the cold. Pay attention to maintaining the temperature in winter, which must be kept above 10 degrees.
