Spring cutting time of red leaf plum

Spring cutting time of red leaf plum

1. Cutting time

It is not suitable to propagate red leaf plum by cuttings in spring. If you want to propagate it by cuttings, you have to choose to do it in autumn. Usually, in autumn when half of its leaves have fallen, you can start taking cuttings. The time is around November to December, and try not to exceed mid-December at the latest. However, warmer areas may allow for a slightly later start.

2. Cutting method

1. Branch selection: Cut a branch with good growth from a mother tree that has grown for 3-4 years. There should be full buds on the branches, and there should be no signs of damage or pests and diseases.

2. Soil: You need to prepare clean sandy loam first and disinfect it with carbendazim or potassium permanganate before use. After disinfection, add some base fertilizer and keep it ready for use.

3. Treatment: The lower end of the branch should be cut into an inclined surface so that it can better contact the soil. Then put it in clean water for a quarter of an hour, and then dip it in an appropriate amount of rooting powder, which will be more conducive to its rooting.

4. Cutting: After processing the branches, carefully insert them into the soil, leaving a certain distance between the branches. The buds at the top of the branches should be about 0.5-1cm above the ground and should not be completely buried in the soil.
