How to prune camellia, how to prune camellia to make it bloom more

1. Pruning time

When pruning camellia, you must pay attention to the choice of time. Usually, you should choose to prune it after flowering. Pruning before flowering will affect flowering. If it blooms in the same year, you can choose to prune it around December. If it blooms in the spring of next year, pruning should be done around May.

2. Pruning method

1. There are many varieties of it, and the pruning methods are different for different varieties. If you are pruning upright varieties such as Big Cinnabar or Red Dew Pearl, the main thing to do is to shorten the branches. Cut off the upper third of the branch and half of the leaves. If you find diseased or dead branches, cut them off directly from the base to avoid infection.

2. Some varieties have better shapes, such as White Swan, Eighteen Scholars, Peony, etc. There is no need to prune heavily when pruning. Just cut off the branches that grow too long, about one-third, to make the branches uniform in length. Note that the part above should also be cut off together with the flower buds.

3. The branches of some varieties are soft and weak, and the crowns grow too lush. When pruning, the crown of the tree should be cut small, and the inner branches and the branches at the bifurcation points of the main trunk should be cut off. This can save a lot of nutrients, ensure better growth in the later stages, and increase the quality of flowering.

3. Notes

When pruning, be sure to ensure that the cut is flat and be as careful as possible to reduce damage to the mother plant. If you are pruning branches that are too dense, cut them directly from the base. In addition, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied as soon as possible after pruning to replenish nutrients and encourage it to resume growth as soon as possible.
