Method and time of rose cuttings

Method and time of rose cuttings

1. Cutting time

Rose cuttings are generally taken in spring and autumn. If you use young shoots for cuttings, it is best to do so in April-May or September-October. If you use branch cuttings, it is better in early spring and late autumn.

2. Cutting method

1. Select branches: Good branches are the first step to successful cuttings. Generally, woody hard branches are selected, with a length of between 10-15 cm and at least 3-4 buds. Remove the leaves at the base of the hard branches and cut the lower cut into an inclined surface to increase the contact area with the soil and help rooting.

2. Preparation of potting soil: Rose is not suitable for growing in an alkaline environment, so you should choose acidic soil containing humus. You can add appropriate amount of river sand to increase its drainage. The soil used for cuttings generally does not contain base fertilizer, which is not conducive to the rooting of the plants.

3. Carry out cuttings: Use chopsticks to poke a 5 cm deep hole in the potting soil and insert the branch into the hole. After compacting the soil, water it thoroughly. If the temperature is very low, you can build a small rack with wooden strips, wrap it with plastic film, and place it in a sunny place.

4. Subsequent maintenance: Whether the branches can survive mainly depends on three factors: ventilation, temperature and water. Regularly remove the film every day to ventilate the branches and ensure air circulation. The temperature is controlled at around 23-27℃, which is suitable for branch rooting. Don't water too much, just spray it moderately.
