How to grow crabapple

How to grow crabapple

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: From its distribution area, it can be seen that it likes higher temperatures. Generally speaking, it grows better in an environment of 25 to 35 degrees. It does not tolerate low temperatures very well, so it is basically not grown in the north. Therefore, if you want to plant it in the north, you need to pay special attention to cold protection.

2. Light: Crabapple likes light. Especially during the flowering and fruiting periods, the requirements for sunlight are very high. Generally speaking, full sun is available. However, in summer, try to block direct sunlight and let it receive scattered light.

3. Watering: It has a relatively large demand for water. The specific amount of watering can be determined according to the climate. If it is a dry season, you need to water more. If it is the rainy season, not only should you not water too much, you also have to drain the rainwater in time.

4. Fertilization: It does not require much fertilizer. Choose a place with deep and fertile soil to plant it, and don't apply too much fertilizer afterwards. You can only use some phosphorus fertilizer during the flowering period.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Generally speaking, the method of reproduction is sowing, but it will grow more slowly using this method. First, you need to select good quality seeds, and then choose a suitable location for sowing. Note that the plant spacing needs to be larger because the plant itself is relatively large. After sowing, the temperature can be above 20 degrees and water appropriately.

2. Pruning: Pruning branches and leaves is a relatively important step. Regular pruning is required, otherwise the branches and leaves will appear very dense, which will have a great impact on light transmission. You can cut off some of the dense branches and leaves. For yellowing branches and leaves, just cut them off.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Diseases: There are not many diseases of crabapple, but they are relatively more common in summer. You can prevent it in advance by spraying some preventive medicines regularly, and there will be no problem.

2. Pests: They are also prone to occur in summer. Take timely measures to prevent and control them when they appear, and do not let their numbers increase further.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is non-toxic and its fruit is edible.

2. Can it be grown at home? Generally not, because as mentioned above, it is very tall and not suitable for bonsai.
