Avocado cutting method, can avocado be propagated by cuttings?

Avocado cutting method, can avocado be propagated by cuttings?

1. Cutting time

The time for avocado cuttings is usually in spring and autumn, when the temperature is not high and is very suitable for plant growth. This plant is afraid of heat, so the survival rate of cuttings in summer is not high, and the high temperature and high humidity environment can easily cause its wounds to rot. Since the temperature is low in winter, it is not conducive to rooting, so it is not recommended to do it in winter.

2. Cuttings processing

In order to ensure the healthy growth of avocado, cuttings should generally be selected from healthy plants, and branches about 10 cm long should be cut from the top, and the bottom should also be cut obliquely. After cutting the branches, place them in a cool and ventilated place to allow the wounds to dry as quickly as possible. In order to prevent rot after cuttings, the middle and lower leaves need to be removed.

3. Take cuttings

After the cuttings are prepared, they can be planted. Before cutting, apply rooting powder on the bottom of the cuttings, which will help the cuttings take root. Use loose and fertile sandy loam as the substrate, water it thoroughly, and then insert the branches into it. Place it in semi-shade to avoid water loss due to sunlight.

4. Subsequent maintenance

After the avocado is grafted, it needs to be watered frequently to keep the soil moist, which is very helpful for the growth of new roots. After it grows roots, you can expose it to light. It should be noted that although the cutting method is relatively simple, it is not suitable for large-scale reproduction. If you want to plant in large quantities, it is better to use sowing or grafting.
