When does sea buckthorn mature? What does it look like when it matures?

1. Maturity Time

There are many varieties of sea buckthorn, and different varieties mature at different times. Varieties brought from Russia or Inner Mongolia, such as Chuisk and Altai, mature relatively early and can be seen in early August. The superior sea buckthorn and orange sea buckthorn will not mature until late August.

2. What does it look like to be mature?

The fruit of sea buckthorn is spherical, about 4-6 mm in diameter, orange-yellow or orange-red in color when ripe, and the fruit stalk is only 1-2.5 mm long. The fruit contains seeds, which are very small and oval in shape. Some are relatively flat and about 3-4.2 mm in length. The seeds are black in color and have a shiny surface.

3. How to pick

To pick sea buckthorn, you usually have to wait until it freezes. Place a plastic sheet under the tree and hit the branches with a wooden stick. Since the fruits are frozen through, they will fall down easily. Of course, you can also use a special picking period for picking. After picking, remove the branches and leaves and put them in bags.

4. Storage Method

Sea buckthorn itself is rich in water and sugar, so if it is not properly stored, it will easily breed bacteria and cause it to rot. If it is picked early, it needs to be placed in a warm environment to allow it to mature gradually. After it matures, it should be stored in a low temperature place. At the same time, attention should be paid to ventilation and the entry of harmful gases should be avoided. Generally, when the temperature is around 1-5℃, the air humidity should be kept above 90%. In winter, you can pile them up and sprinkle some water on them, and preserve them by freezing.
