Water requirements of strawberries

Water requirements of strawberries

1. Strawberries love water

The strawberry has a relatively shallow root system, a relatively small plant, and many leaves with a high transpiration rate, so it is demanding on watering and is relatively water-loving. Sufficient water must be ensured during the growth and maintenance process, otherwise the leaf surface will evaporate too much and water will not be able to sustain growth, flowering, and fruiting.

2. Water demand at different times

1. Seedling stage: The seedling stage of strawberries is the growth stage. Watering is essential at this time. The soil humidity needs to be kept at around 70%. Water the plants immediately if the plants are found to be lacking water. If there is a lack of water, the plant will become shorter, the leaves will become smaller, and the petioles will be shortened.

2. Flower bud differentiation period: During the flower bud differentiation period, less water is required. Too much watering will affect the differentiation of flower buds and lead to a decrease in the number of flowers.

3. Flowering period: Water the plant in time during the flowering period, but do not allow water to accumulate. If there is a lack of water during this period, the flowering period will be shortened and the petals may wither.

4. Fruiting period: When the fruit is growing and ripening, sufficient water is required and the soil humidity should be kept above 80% to facilitate yield.

3. No waterlogging

Strawberries require an appropriate amount of water, but they are not tolerant to waterlogging. Too much watering will lead to poor growth and even root rot and death.
