Cultivation methods and precautions of purple bamboo plum

Cultivation methods and precautions of purple bamboo plum

1. Lighting

Purple Bamboo Plum prefers a semi-shady environment. It is mostly planted under the shade of trees for outdoor maintenance. For potted maintenance, it must be protected from direct sunlight in summer. It still needs to be exposed to light in other seasons to avoid insufficient light, which will cause the internodes of the plant to elongate.

2. Temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for Purple Bamboo Plum is around 20℃. The maintenance temperature in winter must be kept above 6℃ to allow it to safely overwinter. When the temperature is low, you must water less, and water it at noon when the temperature is best, using room temperature water that has been dried for a day.

3. Watering

When watering the purple bamboo plum during the growing period, you must adhere to the principle of watering when the soil is dry and when the soil is wet. Observe the surface of the potting soil turning white and dry. When you weigh the soil and feel it is noticeably lighter, water it thoroughly until water flows out from the bottom of the pot.

4. Fertilization

When fertilizing purple bamboo plum, it is important to apply thin fertilizers frequently. In addition to the base fertilizer mixed into the soil at the bottom of the pot during planting, during the growing season of the plant, the flower should be watered with a balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer every half a month to promote the growth and flowering of the plant.

5. Pests and diseases

Purple bamboo plum is most prone to leaf spot disease and scale insects. It can be prevented by ventilating the plant more and spraying carbendazim and flower protector once every half a month. If the plant has been attacked by diseases and insect pests, cut off the severely damaged leaves and spray with Benomyl and Aphidicide for prevention and control.
