1. Layering timeThe time for Milan layering is usually from April to August. This plant is native to the south, prefers a warm and humid climate, and is very afraid of cold, so it must be avoided in late autumn and early winter, and it is not suitable in early spring. In addition, layering during the rainy season is easier to make it take root and has a higher success rate. 2. Branch selection and ring barkingBefore preparing layering, first select a healthy plant that is free of diseases and insects, and find an annual woody branch from it. Then ring-bark the tree 20 cm from its base, peeling off the bark to expose its wood. The width of the ring-barking should be about 1 cm. In addition, the lower side branches should be cut off to prevent them from consuming nutrients. 3. Cover with soil to keep moistureAfter ring barking, it is usually necessary to wait for a few days before covering the soil again. Since the sap is transmitted upward from the middle of the branch and then downward through the bark, it can accumulate nutrients after a few days. Choose moss or peat soil to apply on the ring-barking area. In order to better retain moisture, you need to spray water appropriately and then tie it tightly with a plastic bag to prevent the soil from falling off. 4. Isolation and ColonizationIt usually takes two months for Milan layering to take root, but it does not mean that you can separate and transplant it after the roots grow. It usually takes half a year until the root system of the plant is well developed and the climate is relatively warm before cutting and planting. Prepare the flowerpot and soil, plant it in the new soil, place it in a semi-shaded place and wait for it to acclimate. |
