Snapdragon cultivation methods and precautions

Snapdragon cultivation methods and precautions

1. Lighting

Snapdragons like to stay in a sunny environment. If they are potted, they need to be shaded from the strong sun at noon in summer, but they should be exposed to the sun all day in other seasons. The more light they get, the more vigorously the snapdragons grow and the more they bloom.

2. Temperature

Snapdragons prefer a relatively cool climate and are particularly afraid of extreme heat. They are relatively cold-resistant. In winter, the maintenance temperature should be kept above 0°C. In summer, shade nets should be pulled up to block light and reduce temperature, so that the Snapdragons can safely overwinter and summer.

3. Watering

Snapdragon likes moisture and is afraid of waterlogging. You can weigh the soil in the pot and water it thoroughly when it feels noticeably lighter. Do not keep the soil wet for a long time, otherwise the plant will easily rot and eventually die.

4. Fertilization

During the growth period of snapdragon, you can apply liquid fertilizer, such as compound fertilizer water, every half a month to promote growth. Before flowering, use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, to promote flowering. When applying fertilizer, be sure to apply it thinly and frequently; a lighter concentration is safer.

5. Pruning

During the seedling stage of snapdragon, you can pinch the top of the plant to promote more branching. That is, when the seedling grows to 6 leaves, pinch off the top 2 leaves and keep 4 leaves. In addition, after each flower fades, 15 cm of stems should be retained, and the remaining flowers and top branches and leaves should be cut off to promote the plant to grow new branches and bloom again.
