How to trim the smooth sailing

When to prune the smooth sailing

The lucky charm plant can be pruned after flowering, and can be pruned in spring and autumn to facilitate its quick recovery. It does not need to be pruned specially at other times.

When taking cuttings of Smooth Sailing, cut off the strong and thick stem nodes, soak them in rooting solution for an hour, place them in a cool place to dry, and then bury them in the soil for cuttings. In the later stage, control the temperature and keep it moist at around 28 degrees, and spray water frequently. It will germinate in about 30 days.

Smooth Sailing Pruning

During its growth period, the plant will be susceptible to diseases and pests, so it must be pruned and burned in time. If it is placed in a cool environment for a long time, the branches and leaves will grow too long, so it should be cut off as soon as possible.

At the end of the flowering period of the smooth sailing plant, you should trim off the withered flowers in time, but you don’t need to cut the flower stems, just remove the flowering parts, which can reduce the consumption of nutrients.

For a lush growing plant, you should also thin out the leaves and remove the leaves that grow too densely to leave enough growing space for the plant, so that its leaves are in a well-ventilated and well-lit growing environment.

Smooth Sailing Pruning Tips

The smooth sailing plant needs to be pruned after 2-3 years of maintenance. The leaves of the plant will become smaller and the flowering will decrease. When the flower tips dry up, the flowers can be cut off from the bottom, which will not affect its normal growth and next flowering.

Old plants that have been growing for several years need to be pruned regularly to remove black or dry branches and leaves. You can also cut off the area below the flowers as long as it does not affect its normal growth.

Smooth sailing pruning precautions

It needs to be repotted once every one or two years. When repotting, you can slightly prune the roots, cut off some old and useless roots, and replace the soil with new one, so that its growth will be more conducive.
