How to grow gardenia indoors in winter

How to grow gardenia indoors in winter

1. Stay in the sun

After moving gardenia indoors in winter, it is still necessary to keep it in good sunlight, with the light intensity maintained at about 60%. It can be grown on a balcony with good lighting and more sunlight can also promote its healthy growth.

2. Pay attention to ventilation

Gardenia has requirements for air circulation. It should not be too stuffy when kept indoors. Windows should be opened frequently to ventilate and promote air circulation. Be careful not to open the windows when there is cold wind. You can choose to open the windows at noon to ensure that you will not get frostbite.

3. Reduce water and fertilizer

The temperature is relatively low in winter and the growth is very slow, so you must pay attention to controlling the application of water and fertilizer and reduce watering and fertilizing appropriately. Generally, wait until the soil is dry before watering. The water should be taken out in advance and let air dry, roughly to room temperature. The demand for fertilizer is also very small, and not too much fertilizer should be applied. If the temperature is relatively suitable, you can apply some fertilizer appropriately. If the temperature is relatively low, you can stop fertilizing.

4. Maintain temperature

Placing it indoors can generally ensure that it spends the winter safely. The indoor temperature should be kept at around 6-12℃. If the indoor temperature is low, you can wrap the flowerpot with foam plastic to protect the root system.

5. Pay attention to pruning

Winter is very suitable for pruning, and you can prune and shape the plants, and cut off diseased branches, weak branches, and overgrown branches.
