How to propagate Chinese evergreen by cuttings

How to propagate Chinese evergreen by cuttings

1. Cutting time

The survival rate of Chinese evergreen is relatively high through cutting propagation, and the operation is also very simple. The time for cutting can be chosen in spring from April to May. The temperature during this period is relatively high, which is more suitable for growth. All things grow well, so cutting is very suitable at this time.

2. Cutting cuttings

Peperomia can be propagated by cuttings of branches or leaves. Both methods are acceptable, but the germination time of leaf cuttings is longer, so here we focus on branch cuttings. You can choose plants with good growth conditions and cut off the top branches from them. They must grow healthily, be free from diseases and pests, and be about 10 cm in length. Treat the cut branches appropriately, keep 1-2 leaves on the top, remove the leaves below, and then place them in a cool place to dry the cut.

3. Soil Preparation

The preparation of the soil is also critical. It must be breathable and loose. It can be prepared with river sand, vermiculite, and peat soil. Mix and disinfect before use. The disinfection method can be spraying with carbendazim solution.

4. Take cuttings

Spray water on the soil appropriately to maintain good humidity, soak the branches in the rooting water for a while, and then insert them into the soil. It doesn't need to be too deep, just one-third of it. After the cuttings are completed, place them in a cool and ventilated place, water them thoroughly to keep them moist, and wait for the branches to take root.
