What kind of fertilizer is better for red pine?

Korean pine is a very important economic forest tree species, and its planting area in my country is very large. During the growth process of Korean pine, top dressing can be applied to promote growth. But what kind of fertilizer is better for red pine? Let’s learn more about it below.

What kind of fertilizer is better for red pine?

1. Base fertilizer

When cultivating red pine, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied first. Decomposed organic fertilizer can be used, and the application amount should be controlled at 3000kg/667㎡. Then the land is deep-turned and tilled, large clumps of soil are raked into small pieces, and finally leveled.

2. Topdressing

The seedlings of red pine do not require top dressing during the planting year. Top dressing begins in the second year, with compound fertilizer as the main top dressing fertilizer, 10 to 15 kg per mu. Top dressing in late spring and early autumn. In spring, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers are used to promote foliage growth. In the fall, phosphorus and potash fertilizers are used to promote nutrient return, promote branch maturity and promote overwintering.

Key points for planting and management of Korean pine

1. Irrigation

Try not to pour or water the red pine before it emerges to prevent the soil from being compacted and affecting emergence. After emergence, the soil should always be kept moist. Watering should be done every 2 to 3 days depending on weather conditions. Natural sedimentation can ensure the normal growth of seedlings in the nursery in the later stage. The soil must be filled with freezing water before freezing, otherwise the soil will dry out in winter and the pores will increase, which can easily cause the roots of the seedlings to freeze and lead to death.

2. Weeding

Weeding should be done in time after the Korean pine seedlings emerge to prevent excessive weeds from affecting ventilation and light transmission and inhibiting the growth of seedlings. In the early stages, use manual weeding, and in the later stages, use herbicides to weed. Usually weeding is done at least 8-10 times a year.

3. Loosen the soil

Loosening the soil is to prevent the topsoil from clumping and hindering the growth of seedlings. The depth of loose soil is 1~2cm. When loosening the soil, it is best not to touch the roots of the seedlings. Loosen the soil after watering.

4. Pest and disease control

The main diseases and pests of red pine include damping-off disease, needle drop disease, aphids, etc. These diseases and pests cause great harm to the growth and development of red pine, and effective measures must be taken to prevent and control them. Damping-off disease can be controlled by spraying alum water, Suhua 911 emulsifiable concentrate and other pesticides. In the early stage of needle drop disease, use mancozeb for spraying or Bordeaux mixture for prevention and control. Red pine aphids can be controlled by using natural enemies, such as the large gray aphid fly and the multicolored ladybird. On the other hand, chemical agents can be used for prevention and control, such as pine stripe borer emulsion and malathion emulsion.
