When is the best time to plant celery? How to plant?

With the rapid development of urbanization, some green vegetables have become more popular among consumers. For example, celery is rich in nutrients and many friends eat it regularly. So when is the best time to plant celery? How to plant?

1. Planting time

1. Spring celery

In northern regions, seedlings are raised in protected areas from January to March, planted in the open field from March to April, and harvested from May to July. March is the suitable sowing period in the Yangtze River Basin.

2. Summer celery

Seedlings are raised in the open field after the frost stops in spring, transplanted from June to early July, and harvested and put on the market from August to September. However, due to the hot and rainy summer, the growth is poor, many seedlings die, the yield is low, and the planting area is not large.

3. Autumn Celery

In northern regions, sowing and seedling raising are carried out in June to early July, transplanting is carried out in August to early September, and harvesting is carried out in October to November. In the Yangtze River Basin, crops are sown from early July to early September and harvested from October to December. For late sowing, harvesting is completed before bolting in March or April of the following year.

4. Winter celery

The open-field sowing period in the Yangtze River Basin and the south is from September to November, and the harvesting period is from December to April of the following year. In the north, plastic arch sheds can be used for planting.

2. Planting Method

1. Sowing and seedling raising

Use old chaff ash or dry fine soil to mix the germinated seeds, spread them evenly in the field, and water the soil thoroughly. Summer planting requires shade and rain protection, and light manure water should be applied every 5-7 days after seedlings emerge.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

Apply 5,000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu of land and make flat beds with a width of 1 to 1.5 meters, with no limit on bed length. For softening cultivation, leave an empty space of 55 to 60 cm wide between two beds for taking soil.

3. Planting

When the seedlings have 4 to 5 true leaves, they can be transplanted. When removing the seedlings, leave a taproot of 4 to 6 cm to facilitate the growth of a large number of lateral roots and root hairs. The planting depth should be enough to cover the short stems, and water lightly after planting.

4. Field management

After transplanting, water frequently in small amounts to keep the soil moist to help the seedlings to grow. After the seedlings have grown, till the soil and stun the seedlings. At the same time, focus on preventing leaf spot disease. After the celery plants have established themselves, you can apply fertilizer and water at the same time. 15 to 20 kilograms of ammonium sulfate can be applied per mu each time, and then apply manure along with the water.

In short, celery is a cold-loving and cool-resistant vegetable. The suitable planting time varies in different regions, but generally speaking, spring and autumn are the best time to grow celery.
