How to grow purple sweet potatoes on the balcony

Three problems need to be solved before planting. First, where to find purple sweet potato seedlings? Second, how to choose planting containers? Where to dig the third soil?

Method 1:

Buy direct. There are purple sweet potato seedlings on the market with lumps of soil at the roots, so they can be planted directly.

Method 2:

Use purple sweet potato cubes to sprout. Buy purple sweet potatoes directly from the market, cut them into pieces, put them in a pot, cover them with a layer of soil, and spray some water. After 10 to 15 days, the purple sweet potato will sprout. When the sprouts grow to about 15 cm, cut them and stick them in the soil. If you feel it is not suitable yet, wait until the seedlings take root and then transplant them into a larger pot.

Planting Vessels

The main edible part of sweet potatoes is the underground part. Try to choose a larger flower pot to ensure that the roots and rhizomes have enough space to grow. If the flowerpot is too small, the yield of purple sweet potato will be low and it will grow abnormally. You can choose a deeper flower pot or directly build a groove on the balcony with bricks.

Planting soil

Purple sweet potatoes prefer sandy soil and can be planted directly in river sand when cultivating seedlings. After planting, replace the soil with mixed soil, which is a mixture of garden soil, humus soil and organic fertilizer in a ratio of 2:1:1 . If you really don't have any, you can just use ordinary soil.

Purple sweet potatoes like fertilizer. Apply some base fertilizer before planting and apply appropriate topdressing during the growing period, mainly with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers, so that they can grow stronger.

After the purple sweet potato grows leaves, it needs to be exposed to the sun frequently. Place the plant on the edge of the balcony where the sun can reach it. If it is exposed to the sun frequently, the purple sweet potato will grow big and fat.
