Causes and treatments for yellow leaves of purple bamboo

Causes and treatments for yellow leaves of purple bamboo

1. Improper watering

Reason: Because purple bamboo likes a humid environment, it is easy for yellow leaves to appear due to excessive watering. It is very afraid of waterlogging. Excessive watering will cause its roots to be unable to breathe, leading to root rot, which will cause the leaves to turn yellow. If you water too little, the plant will not be drought-tolerant and will not have enough water, resulting in yellow leaves.

Solution: If it is caused by over-watering, place it in a ventilated place to allow the water to evaporate in time. If root rot occurs, timely pruning is required. If it is caused by insufficient watering, you only need to increase the watering frequency. To learn how to water purple bamboo properly, you should first determine whether the bamboo is lacking water. When it lacks water, the leaves will curl up a little. At this time, you should water it in time to replenish the water, and the leaves will quickly stretch out. Pay attention to adding more water in hot summer weather and water less in winter to prevent ice from forming in the pot.

2. Improper fertilization

Reason: Insufficient nutrition for the purple bamboo or too much fertilizer may cause the leaves of the purple bamboo to turn yellow.

Solution: When fertilizing purple bamboo, the principle should be "less fertilizer, more often" to supplement nutrients for the purple bamboo scientifically. If yellow leaves are caused by fertilizer damage, you will need to use plenty of water to flush the soil and wash away the excess fertilizer. If the situation is serious, you need to dig out the roots of the purple bamboo, clean them, and then plant them in new soil. If the yellow leaves are caused by too little fertilization, you need to increase the frequency and amount of fertilization appropriately to ensure 2-4 times a year.

3. Improper lighting

Reason: Purple bamboo likes light, and you cannot deprive it of sunlight just because it likes a humid environment. Insufficient light will cause its leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: It is recommended to move the purple bamboo to a place with sufficient light and not keep it in a dark place for a long time.

4. Poor ventilation

Reason: Placing purple bamboo in a poorly ventilated area will reduce its photosynthesis efficiency, causing the leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: Choose a ventilated place to grow purple bamboo. If it is a potted plant, it should be placed near a window so that it can be ventilated and receive sunlight.
