Why rot?The invasion of malignant bacteria is one of the main causes of ulceration of Haworthia fasciata. When bacteria grow in the soil, insects invade and leave wounds, or the roots are not disinfected when repotting and pruning, large-scale root rot will occur. The roots of Haworthia striata are fleshy, but when the root system ages to a certain extent, even if it is not affected by the external environment, the roots will gradually rot. This is a normal phenomenon, so when repotting, old and diseased roots must be cut off and disinfected. How to judgeIt is difficult to determine if the roots have rotted in the summer because the rate of rot is relatively fast and it directly invades the main stem. After a flood, rotten stems can be found within 3 to 5 days, causing irreversible rot of the entire plant. Therefore, it is better not to water heavily in summer, keep the soil dry, and let it enter a dormant period, which is safer for the Haworthia plant. It is easiest to judge root rot in spring and autumn. If you find that the leaves of your Haworthia suddenly turn red and shrink within a few days, and you recall that you gave it plenty of water 3-4 days ago, then the root rot is likely to occur. At this time, cut off watering, ventilate, and provide partial shade. Your Haworthia can be saved by re-watering it after being dry for a week. |
