Diseases and Pests of Net-veined Grass and Their Control

Diseases and Pests of Net-veined Grass and Their Control

Diseases and their prevention

Common diseases of spider grass include leaf rot and root rot. The main causes of leaf rot and root rot are poor ventilation and drainage. Poor ventilation and drainage will cause the growth environment of spiderwort to be too humid, or if there is water accumulation in the pot, it will cause the rhizomes to rot. When spider grass suffers from root rot and leaf rot, it needs to be treated with drugs. Leaf rot can be controlled by spraying 1000 times diluted 25% carbendazim wettable powder. For root rot, you can soak the roots in 1000 times diluted streptomycin, which can have a sterilizing effect.

Net-grass is sometimes also affected by leaf blight and anthracnose, which can cause disease on the leaves of the net-grass and harm the entire leaf or even the entire plant. You can use 1000 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder for spraying.

Pests and their control

The more common pests of spider grass include cabbage loopers, red spiders, aphids, scale insects, snails and woodlice.

Generally, when pests appear in spider grass, if the damage is relatively minor, you can first use manual capture to kill the pests. If there are too many pests and manual capture is difficult, you can also use safe killing methods, such as non-chemical methods such as pepper water, garlic water, etc. to repel insects. In addition, you can also use chemical methods to repel insects, that is, spraying pesticides. You can spray with 1000 times diluted 40% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate, or you can use special insecticides to kill insects.

In addition to these diseases and pests, in the daily maintenance of spiderwort, care should be taken to avoid direct sunlight that is too strong, which will burn the leaves and cause small holes, affecting the appearance.
