Diseases and Pests of Brazilian Iron and Their Control

Pests and diseases of Brazilian iron

The more common diseases and pests of Brazilian ironwood include red spider mites, stem rot and common flat moth. Let’s explain them one by one below.

Red Spider

Red spider mites, also known as red fire dragons, are a type of mite pest. The symptom of red spider mites is that they gather on the leaves of the Brazilian iron plant and absorb the leaf juice, causing multiple yellow and white spots to appear on the leaf surface, reducing the chlorophyll in the leaves and making the green color darker, thus affecting the ornamental value of the plant.

Stem rot

Stem rot will form many black spots on the phloem, which will gradually peel off and then spread the pathogen to the xylem, causing the plant to rot. Small brown spots will appear on the leaves, which will spread into large irregular spots once they become wet. In severe cases, the leaves will even turn yellow and die.

Pseudosphaeria

The main insect species of the moth is the epidermis of plants. Destroying the conductive tissue and even entering the interior of the plant to cause the plant to become hollow will seriously affect the growth of the plant and cause the entire plant to dry up and eventually die.

Prevention and control of diseases and insect pests of Brazilian iron

Red Spider

Clean the plant leaves regularly and eliminate red spider mites manually or with chemical agents. When spraying, be sure to spray the back of the leaves, which will make the elimination effect better.

Stem rot

Eliminate with fungicide. Or you can use pesticides such as mexamethylenetetramine for watering.

Pseudosphaeria

Strengthen inspections, and promptly handle and destroy such pests and diseases if found, and eliminate them with pesticides.
