Does Gardenia fear cold?

Does Gardenia fear cold?

1. Are you afraid of cold?

Gardenia is afraid of cold and has difficulty surviving in sub-zero environments. In low temperature environments, the branches and leaves will suffer varying degrees of frostbite, which will have an adverse effect on its appearance and later growth. Among them, the large-leaf gardenia is a relatively cold-resistant variety and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 1-3 degrees Celsius. However, if the temperature is lower, it will have an impact and cause frost damage. Therefore, preparations for wintering should be made, and the plants should be moved indoors in time for maintenance. Exposing them to sufficient sunlight can increase the temperature of the plants and it is suitable to keep it at around 10 degrees. Even if you place it outdoors, you can put it in a bag to keep it warm.

2. How to deal with frostbite

If frostbite occurs accidentally, it needs to be dealt with in time. First, observe the condition of the plant. If the degree of frostbite is mild, you can cut off the frostbitten part first, and then gradually increase the surrounding temperature and spray water appropriately. Be careful not to place it in a very hot place immediately, otherwise the plant will have difficulty adapting for a while.

If you observe that the plant is severely frostbitten, you can dig out the roots first. If the roots are relatively fresh, you can trim the branches above, cut off the excess branches, and then replant them. After planting, place the seeds in a place with suitable temperature and wait for germination, but avoid exposure to strong light.
