Diseases of Lilium and their control

powdery mildew

Powdery mildew is a common disease of lily of the valley, which mainly harms the leaves, pedicels and buds of the plant. When powdery mildew occurs on the lily, lesions will appear on the plant, which are circular white powdery spots that cause the leaves to twist and wither.

Powdery mildew usually occurs in September and October. When the disease breaks out, you can spray some pesticides, such as a diluted solution of antimycin or a diluted solution of polysulfide suspension, etc. Continuous spraying several times will have a therapeutic effect.

Brown spot

Brown spot is also a common disease of lily. When brown spot occurs, it mainly infects the leaves, with yellow spots that gradually expand and black mold will appear on the surface of the leaves.

When brown spot disease occurs on lilies, the disease is usually more serious from June to August and can be treated with Bordeaux mixture or thiophanate-methyl solution.

Viral diseases

Viral disease is also a common disease of lily, which mainly manifests itself in mosaic, leaf chlorosis, and plant dwarfing.

The viral disease of lily of the valley is mainly caused by infection with some viruses, which leads to lesions. When growing lilies, choose some disease- and insect-free planting materials to prevent pests.

Pests of Lilium and Their Control

Boar larvae

The common pest of lily of the valley is the larvae of the borer moth. The larvae are light yellow or light red, and the damage period is mainly from June to August.

Prevention and treatment methods

When the lilies are attacked by borer larvae, you can spray some chlorpyrifos for treatment. Omethoate can also be injected.
