Ginger pest control

Ginger pest control

Common diseases

The most common diseases are spot disease and rot disease, among which rot disease is more harmful to ginger.

Rot

At the beginning, the leaves of ginger will turn yellow, then slowly shrink, dry up and even curl. This disease can infect the entire ginger plant through transmission, eventually leading to the death of the plant. Usually the roots of the plant become weak due to the disease, and eventually cause internal rot. When this happens, you'll smell a sour, foul odor. This bacteria can hibernate in the diseased area and will cause disease when the temperature is suitable.

To prevent and control this disease, you usually spray it with medicine. At the same time, you should avoid damaging the ginger when planting, because the pathogen can often infect the plant through wounds.

Spot disease

The disease primarily harms ginger leaves, causing perforations in the leaves, and can be spread directly when it rains. At the same time, a relatively mild environment will also cause the disease to grow rapidly. When planting, the soil should be replaced in time to avoid this situation. We want to make sure there are no problems with drainage. Apply fertilizer appropriately for prevention.

Common pests

The main insect pest is the ginger borer, which can eat the tender shoots of ginger and also drill into the stems to eat the inner plant. To prevent this kind of insect, you can use drugs to kill insects in the early stage. At this time, what is killed are the young eggs of the borer to prevent their large-scale reproduction and damage. If you discover the gnawed area in time, clean it up as soon as possible to prevent the spread.
