The causes and treatment methods of black stems of roses

Black rod phenomenon

There are generally two types of black stems in roses. One is the black stems from top to bottom, and the other is the black stems from bottom to top.

Causes of black rod

Roses with black stems from the bottom to the top may have root rot or be infested with pests and diseases. When this happens, there is a high probability that they are beyond saving.

The occurrence of black stems on roses from top to bottom is not necessarily due to diseases or insect pests. It may be that the roots were not relaxed properly, or the wounds were not healed properly during pruning, resulting in the black stems.

How to deal with black rods

Basically, for roses with black stems from the bottom to the top, there are serious problems with the roots and it is difficult to save them, so you can only give up. However, roses with black stems from top to bottom can still be saved.

The specific method is to first cut off the part of the rose plant with black stems. You must be ruthless when cutting. When pruning, it is best to cut to the part below the black stem and cut off a small part of the normal branches. Note that you must cut a little harder when you start pruning, otherwise the stems may continue to turn black.

After cutting the roses, you can seal the cut ends with wax to avoid infection of the wounds and prevent the roses from continuing to grow black stems.

In addition, when caring for roses, you must pay attention to watering and fertilizing. Improper water and fertilizer may cause root rot, which in turn will cause the roses to have black stems from the bottom up. Daily management can play a preventive role.
