How to cultivate sea cucumbers to achieve high yields?

Sea cucumber is one of the famous “Eight Delicacies of the Sea”. It is not only a high-quality food ingredient, but also a nutritious tonic with high economic value. Currently, most of the breeding is distributed in the coastal areas of Shandong and Liaoning in my country. So how can we cultivate sea cucumbers to achieve high yields? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Breeding site selection

Choose a sea area with no pollution, small waves and smooth tides for breeding. The water quality should be fresh, fertile and pollution-free, with a salinity between 28‰-32‰, dissolved oxygen greater than 5mg/L, and a pH between 7.8-8.4.

2. Release of ginseng seedlings

The stocking density of ginseng seedlings can be reasonably controlled according to the different specifications of the ginseng seedlings. It can be adjusted according to the principle of releasing fewer large seedlings and more small seedlings. Usually, the stocking density of seedlings of a size of 150-250 heads/kg can be controlled at 10-30 heads/square meter.

3. Breeding method

There are many ways to breed sea cucumbers, and you need to choose the appropriate method based on the actual breeding conditions. for example:

(1) Weir aquaculture: Weir ponds are built in the tidal zone of the sea, and the water in the pond is naturally exchanged with the seawater through the tides. This has a shorter growth cycle and better quality, but the area is smaller due to national control.

(2) Captive breeding: Artificially raised young sea cucumbers are released into sea cucumber breeding ponds and seawater is exchanged with the open sea through gates.

(3) Cage culture: A frame is built on the sea surface using floating wooden boards, and a square fishing net is placed on top and fixed. The net is then lowered to a depth of 3-6 meters below the sea surface to culture sea cucumbers.

4. Feeding

Soak the sea cucumber feed in water for 10-15 minutes, then sprinkle it evenly on the sea cucumber reef and its vicinity. The feeding amount can be 3%-5% of the total weight of the sea cucumbers in the pond. Generally, feed it once in the morning and evening every day, and can also be fed every other day.

5. Water quality regulation

When the water is turbid, adsorbents and flocculants can be used to reduce the content of suspended particles and organic matter in the water and improve the transparency of the water. At the same time, microbial preparations are used to adjust the water, balance the algae and fungi phases, and enhance the self-purification ability of the water.

6. Daily maintenance

Strengthen daily pond or box inspections to prevent sea cucumbers from escaping or being preyed upon by harmful organisms. At the same time, pay attention to measuring water temperature, salinity and other indicators to ensure a stable growth environment for sea cucumbers. In addition, regularly clean up debris and leftover bait in the breeding ponds or cages to keep the breeding environment clean.

In general, in order to achieve high-yield farming of sea cucumbers, scientific management and technological application are needed in the above aspects. At the same time, daily monitoring and management measures can be carried out to effectively improve the breeding yield and quality of sea cucumbers.
