What to do if the leaves of Christmas cactus become soft and wrinkled

What to do if the leaves of Christmas cactus become soft and wrinkled

1. Water appropriately

Cause: This phenomenon is easily caused by over-watering or lack of water during maintenance. Too much watering will cause water accumulation, affecting root breathing, leading to slow growth or even root rot, and the leaves will become soft. If you water it too much or the soil is too dry, its fleshy stems will dry out and the leaves will become soft and wrinkled.

Solution: If you water it too much, move it to a well-ventilated place as soon as possible, loosen the soil, and let the water evaporate as quickly as possible. If you are dehydrated, you should drink enough water. If you find the soil is dry later, add water in time.

2. Reduce light

Reason: It likes diffuse light and is suitable for growing in a semi-shade and semi-sun environment. If it is often exposed to the sun or strong direct sunlight, the leaves will be sunburned, becoming soft and wrinkled.

Solution: Pay attention to timely shading during maintenance, especially during strong light periods. You also need more ventilation and water spray to avoid this phenomenon.

3. Normal phenomenon

Reason: It enters a dormant period in summer or after each flowering, during which time the growth rate slows down and it is normal for the leaves to wilt and become soft.

Solution: If the phenomenon occurs during dormancy, don’t worry too much. Just control the amount of water and stop fertilizing. After the dormant period, new stems will grow at the base of the stems. Then increase watering and fertilizer and manage normally.
