Choose the right container for growing vegetables on the balcony

Choose the right container for growing vegetables on the balcony

The most important thing about a vegetable bowl is its size

Generally speaking, the larger the container, the easier it is to grow vegetables, but a container that is too large will become very heavy after filling it with soil, making it inconvenient to move. So be sure to choose a container of the right size.

Standard vegetable bowl

This type of flower pot has different shapes, the rectangular one is about 65 cm long, the square one is about 25 cm long, and the round one is 25 cm in diameter. About 10 to 15 kilograms of soil can be placed. Suitable for growing leafy vegetables such as spinach and rapeseed.

Large vegetable bowl

Large vegetable bowls are divided into rectangular (about 85 cm long), square (about 35 cm side length), and round (about 35 cm diameter). This type of flowerpot can hold 25 to 30 kilograms of soil and is suitable for growing fruit vegetables such as eggplants and tomatoes.

Large, deep vegetable bowl

This type of flower pot generally only considers the depth. A vegetable pot with a depth of more than 30 cm can be considered a deep pot. There is no fixed shape, as long as it is deep enough. Sometimes plastic bags or sacks can be used. Suitable for growing vegetables whose roots are edible, such as potatoes and radishes.

Special containers for growing vegetables

If you want to make your balcony more beautiful and more interesting to plant, you can choose some containers with beautiful appearance. Everyone has different aesthetic tastes, planting methods, and container material choices. You should choose a vegetable pot that suits you.

Unglazed and earthenware pots

This type of pot has good ventilation and is suitable for growing vegetables. You can choose the appropriate size according to different vegetables.

Wooden vegetable bowl

This type of flower pot is suitable for balconies with a style close to nature. The wood has good air permeability, but the soil in the pot dries out easily, so you need to water it frequently. If you are lazy about growing vegetables or don’t have time to take care of them, it is recommended that you do not choose this type.

Plastic vegetable bowl

Lightweight and cheap, it retains moisture well and does not require frequent watering. However, its air permeability is slightly poor, and the humidity is heavy, so the roots of vegetables can easily rot, so it is best to use a plastic pot and put a bamboo board under the container.
