How to grow jasmine more vigorously?

With the arrival of June, the hot and humid climate is a severe test for plants that prefer a cool environment, but for flowers such as jasmine that like a hot and humid environment, summer is a great time for them to show their charm. Jasmine grows faster and blooms more abundantly in hot sunlight. So how can we grow jasmine more vigorously?

1. Soil selection

Jasmine prefers acidic soil and will grow well using ordinary garden soil. But in order to successfully grow jasmine at home, you must ensure that the soil is both breathable and permeable, contains nutrients, and remains acidic. A simple way to prepare the soil is to mix nutrient soil and pine needle soil in a 1:1 ratio. If the indoor ventilation is poor, you can add some river sand to the soil to enhance air permeability and water permeability. Pine needle soil provides an acidic environment, nutrient soil contains the necessary nutrients, and river sand enhances water permeability. The mixture of the three can provide an ideal growing environment for jasmine, promote rapid growth of its root system, and avoid root rot and yellowing leaves.

2. Watering

If the soil of jasmine has good air permeability and water permeability, the principle of watering is to water it thoroughly all at once when the soil in the pot is half dry or almost dry. Avoid frequent watering to prevent root rot when growing indoors. If you are not sure when to water, insert a bamboo stick into the soil close to the bottom. When there is no moisture on the top of the stick, water thoroughly.

3. Fertilization

Fertilizers should be high in phosphorus and potassium and balanced in other elements, and should be supplemented 2 to 3 times a month to promote continued growth and flowering of jasmine. Avoid using only phosphorus and potassium fertilizers or only nitrogen fertilizers, as the former may lead to nutritional imbalance and the latter mainly promotes branch and leaf growth rather than flowering.

4. Lighting conditions

Jasmine is a light-loving plant that requires plenty of sunlight for healthy growth and flowering. If placed in a dark place, the branches will become thin and weak, making it difficult to bloom. To make the jasmine strong and have many flowers, you must ensure that it is placed in a place with sufficient light throughout the year so that the branches can grow thick and continue to form flower buds from the top of the new branches.

5. Pruning method

Pruning is also a key step in caring for jasmine. Jasmine grows rapidly, so the branches should be pruned promptly after flowering, leaving 2 to 3 pairs of leaves at the bottom and removing small, weak branches and buds at the bottom. After pruning in this way, the jasmine will quickly grow 2 to 3 new buds between the top leaves and the stems, and will bloom when the new buds mature. Timely pruning can not only maintain a good plant shape, but also promote the continued growth of new buds and more flowers.

In short, the maintenance of jasmine is not complicated. You only need to provide suitable soil, sufficient light, reasonable watering and fertilization, and timely pruning to ensure the healthy growth of jasmine and continuous blooming. However, if there is insufficient light, the jasmine may have difficulty blooming or lack fragrance, so it is necessary to ensure that it gets sufficient sunlight.
