How to make a bonsai of June Snow

How to make a bonsai of June Snow

Types of shapes

The branches of June snow are soft and tough and can withstand being twisted and tied, so the bonsai shapes are generally divided into straight trunk style, twisted style, cliff style, etc.

If the pot is relatively high, it can be cultivated into a cliff style. The cliff type is divided into semi-suspended, full-suspended and small-suspended according to the different inclinations.

A semi-hanging trunk basically extends horizontally out of the pot. A fully-hanging trunk should hang 45 degrees below the mouth of the pot. A small-hanging trunk generally hangs about 30-40 degrees.

Preparation method

Serissa is propagated by division in March and by cuttings from April to October.

It can be processed by the "wood storage and trunk cutting method" or the "cutting and tying combined method". The winding and tying process is usually carried out from the semi-deciduous period in winter to before the buds sprout in spring. The trunk and main branches of the June Snow are tied with wire, and the twigs are trimmed into shape.

Transplant the plants into pots in February or March, and choose darker purple clay pots or glazed pots with shallower depths to contrast with the color of the flowers. The potting soil needs to be sandy loam that is rich in organic matter, loose and fertile, and has good drainage and air permeability.

Repotting should be done every 1-2 years, in spring from February to March or in late autumn. All the old soil should be discarded and the roots should be properly pruned. Repotting can be combined with root lifting to form hanging roots to enhance the ornamental value.

Maintenance points

Shaping and pruning are carried out every year after the leaves fall in winter and before the buds sprout in the following spring. Short branches, overgrown branches, thin branches, and diseased and insect-infested branches are cut off. During the growing season, pinching, bud removal, and branch removal are carried out to maintain a beautiful shape.

The branches of June snow are relatively soft and suitable for winding and tying. In the early stage, the skeleton should be tied well, the main trunk and branches should be determined, and they should be left to grow thicker.

The root system of June Snow is well developed, with roots hanging and claws exposed. During the maintenance stage, it is very important to arrange the roots and stones, and the design plan and stone selection must be cautious.

During the period of pile maintenance, large amounts of fertilizer and water should be used for management, and during the shaping period, control should be carried out according to specific circumstances.

Be careful not to water too little. June snow is very sensitive to water. If you water it too little, it may result in dead branches and stumps.
