How to shape a banyan bonsai

How to shape a banyan bonsai

1. Topping

The main function of pinching is to control the growth height of the banyan tree. Pinching the tree at an appropriate height can promote the growth of side buds, making the overall look more tree-like. At the same time, it is also limited by the size of the bonsai and cannot be allowed to grow freely.

2. Picking buds

The purpose of bud picking is similar to pinching, which is to maintain the shape of the banyan bonsai tree and prevent it from growing too many branches. Bud picking is usually more frequent before the banyan tree is fully grown, and pruning is more common after it has grown.

3. Pruning

Pruning mainly involves pruning branches and cutting leaves. Pruning is mainly aimed at some new branches, and whether to prune them depends on their growth. Some branches may look beautiful at the beginning, but after they grow up they are no longer in line with the overall look of the bonsai and need to be cut off. At the same time, forked branches, diseased and dead branches, and branches that are too dense and too long should be cut off. The leaves need to be pruned regularly to ensure that the branches can sprout new leaves, so that the color will be brighter.

4. Root

The roots are usually lifted after the tree has grown into shape, and the shape is created by lifting the roots. This is usually done when repotting in autumn, and the roots of the banyan tree should be properly raised above the bonsai.

5. Pan Zha

Panza is a more professional operation, which requires the individual to have a good idea of the shape of the tree, and then use copper wire or aluminum wire to wrap the branches and trunks, so that it can grow into the shape you want.
