What soil is best for growing yew?

What soil is best for growing yew?

1. Growth habits

This plant originally grows in the barren or rocky soil on the shady or semi-shady slopes of the mountain top, where the annual precipitation is 750 mm to 1000 mm, the soil is semi-humid for a long time, and the nutrients are very sufficient. It is difficult for water to accumulate on the hillside and the soil is relatively loose, which is very suitable for its growth.

According to the planting experience of flower lovers over the years, although this plant likes relatively moist soil, it is very afraid of waterlogging. If the nutrients in the soil are insufficient or the soil is not loose enough, and it grows slowly, it will directly stop growing. A longer period of time will seriously affect their health.

2. Soil selection

Sandy soil is the main type because of its good water permeability and air permeability and no clay phenomenon. However, it is not possible to use sandy soil alone, but it must be mixed with other materials. If only sandy soil is used, it contains very few nutrients and has very poor fertilizer retention effect, which is not conducive to the later growth of plants.

You can mix perlite, peat soil and sandy soil. Among them, perlite can effectively control the fertility and fertilizer efficiency. The advantage of peat soil is that it contains some minerals, humus, etc., so this is a soil that is very beneficial to plant growth. Before adding soil, you can put some small pieces of wood or willow bark at the bottom of the pot to enhance the air permeability of the soil.
