When is the honeydew melon ripe for picking?

Honeydew melon is a kind of melon , which is juicy and delicious. It contains a lot of sugar and has a relatively high nutritional value. It is suitable for people with low blood sugar to eat in rotation. It contains a lot of vitamins, proteins and other substances. So when is the honeydew melon ripe for picking? Let’s take a look below.

1. When is the honeydew melon ripe for picking?

Honeydew melon usually matures around August, but with the advancement of technology, it can now mature in March and April and be on the market around April. Honeydew melon has a refreshing and sweet taste and contains a lot of sugar. Regular consumption can relieve heat, clear away body fluids and quench thirst.

2. Planting time and method of honeysuckle

1. Planting time. It can be planted when the temperature is above 15 degrees, usually from March to April in spring, when the light is more sufficient. Greenhouses can start planting in November in autumn, and the seeds sown at this time can be harvested in spring and put on the market early.

2. Seed selection and processing. Honeydew melon has strong growth ability. You can choose early-maturing or mid-maturing high-quality varieties suitable for the local area. The main thing is to adapt to the local climatic and environmental conditions. Before sowing the seeds, you need to select plump seeds and soak them in warm water at 50 degrees for about 15 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid burns. Soak the washed seeds in clean water for about 5 hours, then drain and wrap them in wet cotton cloth, and place them in a constant temperature box for germination. The temperature should be between 28 and 30 degrees. Basically, they can be sown in about two days.

3. Sowing and raising seedlings. Use seedling pots to grow seedlings. Prepare river sand and humus soil and dry them for a few days before use. Sow 1 to 2 seeds in one pot and cover with 1 cm of soil. Spray until water flows out of the drainage holes, then stop watering. Place in a cool place, shade and keep moisturized.

4. Transplanting value. The leaves can be transplanted when three true leaves have grown. At this time, the seedlings are generally about 10 cm tall and the leaves are large. Apply sufficient base fertilizer before planting, mainly organic fertilizer and supplemented by chemical fertilizer. Apply 4,000 kilograms of high-quality decomposed organic fertilizer, 40 kilograms of urea, 100 kilograms of superphosphate, and 70 kilograms of potassium sulfate per mu of land. After fertilization, deep plowing is carried out to 30 cm, and ridges are formed for planting. The ridges are 40 cm wide and the ridge furrows are 20 cm deep. The transplanting spacing is 30 cm. Water the plants immediately after transplanting, and water them evenly and thoroughly.

5. Field management. After planting, the temperature in the greenhouse should be kept at around 30 degrees during the day and not lower than 20 degrees at night. The flowering period is 27 to 30 degrees Celsius during the day and 18 degrees Celsius at night. The soil moisture should not be lower than 48% during the entire growing period. The water requirement varies at different development stages. Water once 10 days after planting. Apply 10 kg of triple compound fertilizer every 2 waterings.

6. Disease and pest control. The main pests and diseases of honeysuckle are whiteflies and aphids. For prevention and control, yellow board trapping can be used. You can also use 2000 times diluted 0.5% avermectin emulsifiable concentrate and other pesticides for spraying for prevention and control. Common diseases include powdery mildew and downy mildew. Early prevention should be done well. Spray 600 times of thiophanate-methyl, spray once every 7-10 seconds, and spray 2-3 times in a row.

7. Harvest. The mature honeydew melon is grayish white in color and smells sweet, and can be harvested at this time.
