How many crops of greenhouse tomatoes can be planted in a year?

Growing tomatoes in greenhouses is a common and efficient agricultural method. It can precisely control conditions such as temperature, humidity and light to provide the most suitable growth environment for tomatoes, thereby achieving high yields. So how many crops of greenhouse tomatoes can be planted in a year? Let’s learn more about it below.

How many crops of greenhouse tomatoes can be planted in a year?

There is no fixed standard for the number of crops of greenhouse tomatoes that can be planted in a year. It mainly depends on the climatic conditions of the planting area, the performance of the greenhouse facilities and the technical level of planting management. But in general, greenhouse tomatoes are mainly produced twice a year. Among them, spring stubble is usually carried out from February to March, and autumn stubble is carried out from July to September.

How to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse?

1. Variety selection

We should choose varieties that are resistant to diseases and insects, tolerate low temperatures, are early maturing, have high yields, are of high quality, and have good commercial value based on the local planting environment. For example, Zhongza No. 9, Jiafen No. 15, Provence, Kaihong 414, etc.

2. Seed treatment

After drying the seeds for two or three days, soak them in 500 times 50% carbendazim for half an hour and wash them. Then soak them in warm water for five hours. Then soak them in 10% trisodium phosphate solution for half an hour. After washing, germinate them. When 70-80% of the seeds turn white, they can be sown.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

There are two main methods of raising seedlings. One is to pour nutrient soil into the seedling tray for seedling raising, and the other is to use the seedbed direct seeding method for sowing. The suitable time for planting tomatoes is about early May to mid-June every year. Before planting, you must first cover the soil with a drip-free film. The greenhouse cannot be ventilated from sowing until the germination rate reaches more than 75% to avoid excessive temperature in the greenhouse.

4. Seedling management

After the seedlings emerge, remove the plastic film in time, maintain appropriate light and humidity, and prevent drought and waterlogging. Thin out the seedlings about 10 days after germination, leaving one plant in each container, cut off the excess seedlings, and do not pull them out to avoid damaging the roots. Fertilize in time after transplanting, once every 10 days, and use 0.2% urea or 0.1% compound fertilizer solution for watering.

5. Planting at the right time

Generally, transplanting is carried out in mid-to-late October or early November, or on sunny mornings. Double-row planting is adopted, with a maximum row spacing of 80 cm, a minimum row spacing of 50 cm, and a plant spacing of 30-33 cm. When transplanting, use 1 jin of Genforte mixed with 50 jin of water to dip the roots for 10 minutes, and then water abundantly to thoroughly soak the nutrient block or nutrient body at one time.

In general, it is a common practice to plant two crops of greenhouse tomatoes a year, but the specific number of crops depends on the actual planting situation. In addition, attention should be paid to flexibly adjusting planting methods and management measures to achieve high quality and high yield of greenhouse tomatoes.
