Medicinal Value of Cinnamon

Harvesting and storing cinnamon

Harvest cinnamon trees that are more than 5 years old, peel the bark and branch bark in autumn. After peeling the cinnamon bark, be sure to rub the ring-barking wound with callus antiseptic film to promote wound healing tissue growth, prevent disease, soil and frost. Finally, dry the peeled cinnamon in the sun or in the shade.

Toxicity of Cinnamon

Rouzhu is a pungent and hot medicine and is slightly toxic, so the dosage should not be too large. Overdose can easily cause dizziness, blurred vision, coughing, thirst, and other toxic reactions.

Chemical composition of cinnamon

The main components of the volatile oil extracted from cinnamon are cinnamaldehyde, ethyl cinnamate, benzaldehyde, coumarin, trans-cinnamic acid, etc.

Pharmacological studies on cinnamon

Cinnamaldehyde has a significant sedative effect on mice and can also regulate movement disorder symptoms; decocted cinnamon can improve the symptoms of myocardial ischemia in rabbits; sodium cinnamate has the effect of dilating blood vessels and can effectively promote blood circulation; cinnamon oil is aromatic, can promote the secretion of gastric juice, and has a stomachic effect. Cinnamon oil has a good bactericidal effect, especially against Gram-positive bacteria.
