Cultivation methods and precautions of Araucaria

Cultivation methods and precautions of Araucaria

1. Breeding methods

illumination

Araucaria prefers a sunny growing environment and likes sunshine, but the seedlings prefer shade. They need sufficient sunlight in winter and appropriate shade in summer to avoid direct sunlight.

temperature

Araucaria prefers a warm and humid climate and is not cold-resistant. It grows best when the temperature is maintained at 25℃-30℃. When grown in potted plants indoors, they should be placed in a well-ventilated place and the room temperature should not be lower than 8℃.

soil

Araucaria prefers fertile soil.

For potted plants, loose and fertile culture soil with high humus content and good drainage and air permeability is required. It is best to mix 3 parts of loam, 1 part of leaf mold, 1 part of coarse sand and a small amount of wood ash. The depth of the soil layer should be so that the rooting buds on the upper layer are just exposed above the soil surface.

Watering

Normally, the relative humidity in the air needs to be kept above 70%.

Water frequently during the growing season, about 2-3 times a week. The best watering depth is 10-15 cm. As the Araucaria grows, gradually reduce the number of waterings and keep the potting soil and surrounding environment moist.

2. Precautions

Repotting young trees frequently

It is best to repot young Araucaria trees every year or in the spring of the following year. Plants over five years old should be repotted and the soil turned every two to three years.

Maintain ambient humidity

Araucaria is not drought-tolerant, so in hot and dry seasons, you should often spray water and mist on the leaves and surrounding areas to increase air humidity and keep the soil moist.

Be careful not to let the soil in the pot be too dry or too wet, as this will easily cause the lower leaves to droop.

Apply fertilizer frequently

Potted Araucaria should be prepared with a mixture of leaf mold, peat soil, pure river sand and a small amount of decomposed organic fertilizer. When new buds sprout in spring, apply 1-2 times of decomposed thin organic liquid fertilizer and calcium fertilizer every month to keep the leaves moist.
