Cultivation methods and precautions of purple-backed arrowroot

Cultivation methods and precautions of purple-backed arrowroot

1. Breeding methods

Temperature and light

Purple-backed arrowroot prefers high temperature, high humidity and semi-shady environment. The suitable growth temperature is 20-30℃, and the safe wintering temperature is 10℃. In summer, you need to prevent high temperatures and in winter, you need to prevent cold. Purple-backed arrowroot avoids direct sunlight and grows better under indirect radiant light or scattered light. Otherwise, the leaves will turn yellow and lose their luster. Especially in the summer, they need to be shaded, but they should not be placed in a dark and poorly ventilated place for a long time to prevent the leaves from turning yellow and falling off.

Water and fertilizer management

Purple-backed arrowroot is not drought-tolerant and requires a large amount of water. It must be given sufficient water during the growing season and the soil in the pot should be kept moist at all times. However, care should be taken not to allow water to accumulate in the soil to avoid root rot. In summer and autumn when the temperature is high and the air is dry, spray water on the leaves and around them frequently to maintain a high air humidity. The temperature is lower after late autumn, so you need to control the amount of watering and keep the soil in the pot slightly moist.

During the growing season of purple-backed arrowroot, liquid fertilizer can be applied 1-2 times a month to ensure its healthy growth and lush branches and leaves. Purple-backed arrowroot is a foliage plant. Appropriate application of nitrogen fertilizer can make the leaf color more beautiful. But be careful not to apply too much fertilizer.

2. Precautions

Breeding taboos

Purple-backed arrowroot is an excellent indoor shade-loving foliage plant. It must be prevented from being exposed to the sun in the hot summer. 70%-80% of the light should be blocked, otherwise it will easily be damaged. If the air humidity is low and the soil in the pot is dry, the edges of the leaves will turn yellow and burnt. In addition, direct sunlight can also cause the edges of the leaves to turn yellow and burnt.

Reproduction method

The main methods of propagation of purple-backed arrowroot are division propagation and cutting propagation.

Pests and diseases

Common diseases and pests of purple-backed arrowroot include white rot, leaf spot, scale insects, red spider mites, etc.
