How to grow firecracker flower

Pot soil selection

For potted firecracker plants, people usually choose large deep TV-shaped flower pots. Firecracker plants do not have high requirements for soil. When growing firecracker plants, you can choose soil that is rich in organic matter and has good drainage, and the soil layer should be deep. Generally, you can use a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil, and sand, and add some decomposed fertilizer or bean cake as base fertilizer.

Light and temperature

The firecracker plant likes a growing environment with sufficient light and a warm climate. It is not cold-resistant and needs to maintain a higher temperature in winter. Overwintering generally requires the temperature to be above 10℃. In northern regions, it can be placed in a sunny place indoors for overwintering.

Water and fertilizer management

When watering the firecracker plant, there is a principle to follow, which is to water it when the soil is dry, and there should be no water accumulation in the soil. Generally, you need to water more when the temperature is high in summer, and sometimes you need to sprinkle water on the flower pots and the ground to increase the air humidity and cool it down. Watering in autumn needs to be reduced appropriately.

During the growing season, firecracker vines are usually fertilized once every two weeks with a thin liquid fertilizer. Apply phosphorus fertilizer once or twice during the budding period of the flowers, and apply nitrogen fertilizer once after the flowers fade. During the winter, control the amount of watering and stop fertilizing.

Precautions for the cultivation of firecracker flowers

Pruning and shaping

When growing firecracker flowers, in order to improve the ornamental effect, timely pruning and shaping are required. When the firecracker flower plant grows to a certain height, you can build a flower stand to guide it to climb and form a unique shape. If necessary, topping should be carried out to encourage the sprouting of new branches and more flowering. Cut off old, diseased and broken branches in time to avoid consuming nutrients.

Pests and diseases

Common diseases of firecracker vine are leaf spot and powdery mildew, which can be treated with carbendazim. The main insect pests are whiteflies and scale insects, which can be treated by spraying omethoate emulsifiable concentrate.
