There are several types of elm trees

1. Elm

Ulmus pumila is a sub-arbor deciduous tree with weeping branches. It grows fast and has a natural shape, such as umbrella and conical column. The bark is smooth and gray-brown, the branches grow in curls and droops, and the leaves are oval and ovate, smooth and shiny. The flowers grow in the leaf axils of the branches and bloom from March to June. It is one of the main tree species for garden greening and ornamental purposes.

2. Weeping Elm

Weeping elm is a cultivated variety of elm, mostly distributed in the Northeast and Northwest. It grows rapidly, is cold-resistant and drought-resistant. Because it has a deep taproot, well-developed lateral roots and strong vitality, it can grow well in poor and saline-alkali soil. The bark is gray with longitudinal cracks on the surface. The branches are hairless. The leaves are ovate-elliptical, wider in the middle and lower parts, with a pointed top and an oblique bottom. One side of the leaf is wedge-shaped, and the other side is round to semi-heart-shaped, with serrations on the edges of the leaves. The flowers bloom only after the leaves fall, and the flowering period is from March to June.

3. Elm

The big-leaf elm mainly grows in Xinjiang, Northeast China and other places. The plant is 30 meters tall and is generally straight. It is named big-leaf elm because its leaves are broad, have stripes on them and have serrated edges. It has vigorous growth and is often used to prevent wind and sand.

4. Hangzhou Yu

Hangzhou elm is a deciduous tree that can reach a height of more than 20 meters. It is mainly distributed in the Jiangnan area. It has a wide range of uses and can be used to make furniture, floors, vehicles, buildings, etc.
