How to grow yew

How to grow yew

1. Lighting

Yew is a popular plant that has appeared in recent years and has suddenly become popular. Yew is not a plant that is particularly suitable for indoor cultivation. It grows much better in outdoor environments than in indoor environments. If we want to grow yew indoors, we must be careful. Generally speaking, yew trees prefer shade in the seedling stage. From germination to three years later, yew trees need to gradually see more sunlight, or even become full-light plants, otherwise they will have yellowing leaves and fall off.

2. Watering

When caring for yew at home, you must pay attention to watering. It is a plant that likes moisture but is not tolerant to waterlogging, so the soil in the pot should not be watered unless it is dry, and when watering, it should be watered thoroughly. Just keep it slightly moist on a daily basis, or create a humid environment if conditions permit.

3. Fertilization

During the growing season, you can apply a thin layer of liquid fertilizer once a month to the yew tree, but it is better to apply less rather than more.

4. Pruning

Another thing to note is that we must prune the new buds in time after they sprout, including pinching and shortening the branches of the year. Otherwise, the yew trees maintained at home are particularly prone to plant shape disorder. We must also protect the branches at the bottom of the yew as much as possible. If the leaves and branches at the bottom turn yellow and fall off too much, it will seriously affect the appearance of the yew trees.

5. Pests and diseases

Generally, because of the alkaloids in its body, it has relatively few diseases and pests. We can spray it with a little Bordeaux liquid when the seasons change, which can play a good role in disease prevention. Therefore, yew is a plant that is relatively easy to maintain but difficult to grow delicately.
