How to care for and water the iron tree?

Cycas revoluta, as a common household plant, can be found in many people's homes. However, during the maintenance process, the leaves of the iron tree sometimes turn yellow, or even dry and fall off, which is usually caused by improper maintenance methods. How to care for and water the iron tree?

1. Choose the right flower pot and soil

The cycads are suitable for smaller flowerpots, which should be about 5-10 cm larger than the diameter of their roots, and the distance between the edge of the pot and the roots should be kept about 5 cm. The soil should be breathable and water-permeable. A simple way to mix the soil is to mix river sand and garden soil in a 1:1 ratio. If you are worried about insufficient nutrients, you can add a small amount of sheep manure to maintain a ratio of 10:1 between soil and sheep manure.

2. Reasonable watering

The cycad does not require much water, and watering should follow the principle of "water thoroughly when the soil is dry", especially during the growing season. When the temperature drops in winter, the iron tree enters a dormant state and the frequency of watering should be reduced to once every 1.5 to 2 months.

3. Adequate lighting

The cycads love light and should be placed in an environment with sufficient light. Adequate light helps the leaves remain dark green and stiff, promotes photosynthesis, and develops the root system.

4. Apply fertilizer at the right time

The iron tree can tolerate poor soil conditions, but it still needs regular fertilization during its growth period. Low-concentration multi-element fertilizers , such as nutrient solution or compound fertilizer , can be applied once a month in combination with watering. Avoid using a single fertilizer and maintain a balanced nutrition. If the leaves turn yellow, occasionally spray the leaves with diluted nitrogen fertilizer. In northern regions, regularly supplement ferrous sulfate to maintain soil acidity.

In short, the maintenance of the iron tree is not complicated. As long as the maintenance temperature is maintained at no less than 5 degrees, sufficient light, suitable soil and flower pots, and regular watering and fertilization are provided, the iron tree can grow healthily.
