How to identify brocade lanterns

1. Blades

The leaves of the Lantern Festival are alternate, oval in shape at first, and gradually become oval-heart shaped in the later stage. It is about 4-8 cm long and 2-6 cm wide, with serrations of varying sizes on the edges.

2. Flowers

The flowers of the Lantern Festival usually grow solitary in the leaf axils. The calyx is bell-shaped with 5 lobes. The corolla is also bell-shaped, light yellow in color, about 6-10 cm in diameter, with 5 shallow lobes. There are purple markings at the base of the lobes, and the anthers are yellow.

3. Fruit

The variegated lantern is a berry, spherical in shape, green in color, and about 1.2 cm in diameter. There is a swollen green persistent calyx on the outside, which is oval or broadly oval.
