The difference between violets and purple bamboo plums

1. Difference of blades

The leaves of violet are oblong at first and grow to oblanceolate or spoon-shaped later. They are 6-14 cm long including the petiole, 1.2-2.5 cm wide, with entire or wavy edges and green in color.

The leaves of Purple Bamboo Plum are lanceolate, narrower and smaller than the former, about 6-13 cm long and 6-10 mm wide, dark green on the top, green-purple edges, and purple-red underneath.

2. The difference between flowers

Violets have terminal and axillary racemes, with many flowers and petals that are purple, pink or white and nearly oval. The flowering period is from April to May.

The flowers of Purple Bamboo Plum grow on a dichotomous inflorescence stalk, with three petals that are bluish-purple in color and broadly oval in shape. The flowering period is summer and autumn.
