Cultivation methods and precautions of red maple

Red maple is a very beautiful foliage plant with beautiful red leaves, so it is very popular. Many people grow red maples at home. Here we will introduce to you the cultivation methods and precautions of red maples.

1. Pot soil

The potting soil for growing red maple should be fertile, loose, acidic or neutral soil. It is usually made of leaf mold or dried pond mud mixed with a small amount of acidic loess.

2. Lighting

Red maple has very high requirements for light, so you need to give it sufficient light during the planting process. It can accept full sunlight in spring and autumn, and should be moved to semi-shade after summer.

3. Moisture

If you want the red maple leaves to be beautiful, it is very important to control the frequency of watering. Observe the dryness and wetness of the soil below two centimeters. If it is dry, water it appropriately. In addition, loose and breathable soil should be selected for cultivation to avoid problems such as water accumulation.

4. Fertilization

Red maple can be fertilized evenly, and appropriate amount of fertilizer can be applied every 10 days, which is conducive to the red maple to grow new leaves, and the grown leaves will be more beautiful. Fertilizers can be liquid fertilizers with low decomposition density or compound fertilizers . The amount of fertilizer must be appropriate and not too much.

5. Temperature

Although red maple prefers warmth, it is still relatively cold-resistant. In the Yellow River basin, the winter temperature can drop to -20℃, but as long as the environment is good, it can still overwinter in the open. As for the area north of the Yellow River, it is suitable to be planted in pots and brought indoors in winter.

6. Humidity

Red maple likes moisture, so the soil in the pot should be kept moist. Water more when new buds sprout. Water once a day during the spring growing season and water the leaves once a week. In the summer, the temperature is high and the moisture in the potting soil is easy to evaporate, so it is advisable to water or irrigate the plants once in the morning and evening. Water once a day in autumn and water the leaves once every 2 to 3 days. Red maple is dormant in winter and can be watered once every 3 to 5 days.

7. Pay attention to pests and diseases

Red maple leaves are susceptible to brown spot disease and can be sprayed with lime sulfur mixture. Pests include spiny moths, aphids, etc., which can be killed by spraying 800 times of 50% DDT or 800 times of 40% Lecithin.
