Difference Between Gladiolus and Oleander

Difference Between Gladiolus and Oleander

1. Different plant types

Gladiolus, also known as gladiolus, is a perennial plant of the Iridaceae family and the genus Gladiolus. It is also called iris, water chestnut lotus, and ten-variety brocade. It is a relatively famous fresh cut flower. The plant is about 80-170 cm tall, with a bulb at the bottom that is oblate or oval in shape, with ring-shaped nodes on top and a brown membrane on the outside.

Oleander is an evergreen upright large shrub, which is relatively tall, about 3-5 meters. It is not a plant of the same type, also called half-year red, Jiazi peach, willow leaf peach, etc. It does not have a bulb at the bottom, only a complete root system.

2. Different leaves

Because gladiolus is a herbaceous plant belonging to the monocotyledonous family, the number of leaves on a plant is relatively small, about 6-9 pieces, and their shape is sword-shaped.

Oleander has a relatively large number of leaves, with leaves on each branch and distributed quite densely.

3. Different flowers

The flowers of gladiolus are spike-shaped inflorescences, about 30-75cm in length, with 8-24 flowers on each spike, which generally bloom on one side. The flower colors are very rich, including yellow, white, blue, red, purple, etc., and there are also complex colors.

The flowers of oleander are cymes, and the corolla is generally dark red or pink.
