How to cultivate Viburnum

How to cultivate Viburnum

1. Soil

Viburnum is not very demanding on soil conditions, but acidic soil with good water retention, fertility and breathability is most suitable for its growth. When breeding, you can choose some leaf mold, garden soil and peat soil, add some base fertilizer, and mix them to prepare its nutrient soil.

2. Lighting

It likes light and is also shade-tolerant. It can grow well in full sun or semi-shade environment. You can place it on a balcony or in a sunny place outdoors for cultivation, and provide appropriate shade when the light is strong in summer.

3. Temperature

It prefers warm conditions but can tolerate severe cold. The most suitable growth temperature for it is 15-25℃. During the high temperature period in summer, proper shade is needed to cool it down. The temperature should not be lower than 8℃ in winter, and it needs to be kept properly warm during low temperature periods, otherwise it will affect its normal growth.

4. Watering

It likes a humid environment and needs to be watered at the right time and in the right amount. It must be watered thoroughly, but there should be no water accumulation. Generally, you only need to water the plants every 2-3 days in summer, spring and autumn. In winter, you can extend the time to once every 4-6 days and reduce the amount of watering appropriately.

5. Fertilization

It likes fertilizer and needs to be fertilized regularly during the dormant period or in autumn after the trees lose their leaves but before the soil freezes. Fertilization should be done after ensuring that the viburnum has survived, and not too much at one time to avoid burning the new roots. Each time you apply fertilizer, choose to do it when the weather is clear and the soil is dry, and apply fully decomposed organic fertilizer.
