How to care for and water Kalanchoe in summer?

With the arrival of summer, many flower lovers are worried about the maintenance of Kalanchoe , because in the hot summer, Kalanchoe is prone to root rot or even death due to improper maintenance. Let’s learn together how to care for and water Kalanchoe in summer.

1. Shade

First, understand that Kalanchoe does not completely hibernate in the summer unless the temperature remains above 35 degrees. Generally speaking, temperatures above 30 degrees will slow down the growth of Kalanchoe . Therefore, the first priority of summer care is to provide the Kalanchoe with appropriate shade, about 50% shade, to protect it from strong sunlight, while avoiding frequent watering.

2. Ventilation

Since Kalanchoe is a succulent plant , Crassulaceae , it requires a well-ventilated environment. In an unventilated environment, overly wet soil can easily lead to root and leaf rot. Therefore, make sure the Kalanchoe is in a well-ventilated environment to prevent the occurrence of diseases.

3. Watering

Watering in summer should follow the principle of "water thoroughly when the soil is dry". When the soil in the pot is completely dry and the leaves are slightly soft, choose to water it at night when ventilation is better. As long as you use well-breathable soil and appropriately sized pots, the plants will quickly absorb water after watering at night, and the subsequent wind will help evaporate some of the water, keeping the soil moist but not too wet.

4. Fertilization

Fertilization should not be too frequent in summer, once a month is sufficient. Using a multi-element fertilizer , such as a balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer or a high-potassium fertilizer, can help promote a well-developed root system.

5. Pruning

In summer, Kalanchoe still has the ability to grow side buds, and regular pruning helps maintain a good plant shape.

In short, if you follow the above methods for summer care, the Kalanchoe will grow rapidly in autumn, and will be full of flower buds and ready to bloom by late autumn.
