The difference between Chinese orchids and foreign orchids

The difference between Chinese orchids and foreign orchids

1. Different types

Chinese orchids: Chinese orchids mainly refer to plants of the genus Orchid, such as Chunlan, Huilan, Jianlan, Molan, Hanlan, Rabbit Ear Orchid, Multi-flower Orchid, Duzhanchun, Meihua Orchid, and Tiger Head Orchid.

Foreign orchids: Foreign orchids mainly refer to tropical orchids, such as Phalaenopsis (Phalaenopsis), Paphiopedilum (Paphiopedilum), Cattleya (Cattleya), Dendrobium (Dendrobium), Vanda (Vanda), Cymbidium (Orchidaceae), etc.

2. Different habits

Chinese orchids: Most Chinese orchids are cultivated terrestrially or semi-terrestrially, that is, they are planted in potted soil. They are also the most cold-resistant type of orchid.

Orchids: Most orchids are grown epiphytically, that is, they are planted on sphagnum moss and tree bark. They are native to tropical regions, so they are more afraid of cold.

3. Cultural Differences

Chinese orchid: Chinese orchid refers to the traditional Chinese orchid. As one of the four gentlemen among flowers, orchids are given the symbol of modest gentlemen because of their elegant colors, subtle fragrance, and the fact that they are mostly grown in secluded places.

Foreign orchids: Foreign orchids actually refer to orchids other than domestic orchids. Most of them are native to warm tropical regions. Because of their bright colors and wide varieties, they are more popular among foreign flower lovers. With the development of the times, various types of foreign orchids have entered the domestic market and have become must-have New Year flowers for the Chinese New Year.
